TNT Logistics is among the best GM suppliers in Brazil
24 May 2002 - 15:30 CET
TNT Logistics was one of the companies that received the title "Certificate of Merit 2001" from General Motors Brazil. The certificate was given to the 53 outstanding companies among 542 suppliers to the Brazilian GM subsidiary company during 2001. GM conducted a rigorous analysis based on quality, service, technology price and performance of suppliers during 2001 to arrive at the finalists.
"The process starts in August, but if a suppliers has a fault say in December, it is reassessed", explains Sandra Sabadin, from GM's suppliers quality engineering Department, one of the co-ordinators of the event. For Gianfranco Sgro, the CEO for TNT Brazil and South America, the many awards the company has received mean recognition of quality in service and the search for innovative and flexible solutions.
The award was divided into 5 categories: electrical, chemical, logistics and metallic groups, as well as a fifth group bringing together indirect materials, services, machines and equipment. Sandra explains that GM's suppliers quality engineering Department pre-assesses suppliers and distributes a questionnaire to 21 different areas within the company.
Questionnaires are returned with a 1 to 5 score taking into account the reality pertaining to each area, from which the final count is made. Nine out of the 53 winners were highlighted. One is elected supplier of the year and together with two other companies indicated by GM Brazil, represents the country in an international event promoted by the company. The Supplier of the Year event was held in Toronto, Canada this year.
"Overcoming"
GM decided to promote a different event to disclose winners in 2001. Instead of the traditional cocktails and parties used for this type of award, the company organised an event during the day with the theme Overcoming. There were approximately 300 suppliers and guests, including the president Walter Wieland and GM-Fiat WWP CEO, Marcos Munhoz, dressed informally and taking part in physical activities in boats, climbing, jigsaw puzzles and others. "The fact that we took off our ties brought people closer and the activities were important for team work. The event was very much appreciated", stated Sandra.
