TNT Logistics UK's excellent environmental management has been recognised by the judges at the annual Motor Transport Supply Chain Awards. The judges praised the company's standards when they selected TNT Logistics as the winner of The Environment Award. They said: "TNT has applied consistent environmental standards across the whole company, whilst striving to achieve ISO14001 verification. Overall, TNT has demonstrated its commitment to continuously improve its environmental performance."
TNT Logistics UK employs 8,500 people, utilising a fleet of 5,500 vehicles from more than 150 operating sites. It has developed an Environmental Management System, compliant with ISO14001, which is introduced on a site-by-site basis in agreement with individual clients.
The company utilises and develops IT systems for traffic management to reduce the number of miles travelled and thereby reducing traffic congestion, fuel consumption and pollution. For one client it introduced a parts collection service, which saved 2.7 million miles annually.
TNT Logistics selects vehicles which are not only fuel efficient but which also reduce noise levels, through hush-kits - especially those used on night-time deliveries.
With another client, it built a rail-connected warehouse. By using rail to transport spare parts, more than 125 HGV trips from Germany to the Midlands have been eliminated per week.
TNT Container Logistics, part of TNT Logistics UK, is a market leader in the hire and sale of a range of returnable IBC containers - the most environmentally-friendly form of packaging.
Neil Crossthwaite, Managing Director, TNT Logistics UK says: "We are absolutely delighted to receive this prestigious award in recognition of our commitment to environmental awareness."
