TNT Logistics Brazil receives Fiat's Award for the Best Logistics Supplier

TNT Logistics Brazil has just received the Qualitas award from Fiat Automoveis for delivering "The Best Performance in Logistics Services" during 2002. The award is given by Fiat's Brazilian branch following a rigorous selection process that includes all of its suppliers in the country, totalling over 300 companies. The assessment is based on technical parameters such as quality, technology, price, service and support throughout 2002. At the end 24 suppliers were awarded in 35 different classes.Fiat was one of TNT's first clients in Brazil. The first contract was closed in 1997, when the automaker decided to start transferring its logistics activities to a supplier. A parts and accessories management and distribution contract was signed at that time; at present, thanks to TNT's performance, the company now manages four other areas that support Fiat's activities: production line supply (handling), inbound transport (between suppliers and the factory), CKD (disassembled vehicles for export) and parts and accessory storage and distribution. These activities involve about 2,000 TNT employees.
Results obtained in those areas trusted to TNT are surprising. Excellent gains in the efficiency rate (determined by factors such as cost, time and quality of work improvements) were reported in all of them. "By placing logistics in the hands of a specialist, we were able to obtain improved performance and at the same time to concentrate our efforts on our business, which is to sell parts and accessories, thus increasing our competitiveness", states Lelio Ramos, the sales director for Fiat Automoveis.
Giuseppe Chiellino, the director of TNT Logistics South America states that the award underscores customer satisfaction with the services provided. "Our growing presence within the automaker already indicated the success of this partnership, which is very important for TNT Brazil", adds Chiellino.
