Sam's Record Holder After Atlantic Rowing Challenge

15 March 2004 - 14:43 CET

Pictured above is Sam Knight of TNT Showfreight arriving in Barbados after rowing single-handed across the Atlantic. Knight took part in the 2004 Atlantic Rowing Challenge in which he won the Solo category.

He also became the youngest person ever to row single handed across the Atlantic. The voyage started in Tenerife on 20 January and ended in Barbados 60 days later. "I have been living alone on a 23 foot rowing boat for 59 days and I can’t quite believe it," was Knight's refreshingly modest assessment of his record achievement.

TNT's Managing Director, Philip Powell, was far more enthusiastic "This is a fantastic achievement by an outstanding young man," he said. "The endurance, commitment and dedication that Sam has shown throughout this adventure stands as an example for us all". Aside from his personal triumph, Knight also raised a significant anount of money for the Leukaemia Research Fund.
