Road safety for Nuneaton children

Over 100 children from Nuneaton enjoyed a lesson with a difference this week when TNT Logistics visited their schools with trucks to teach them about road safety around HGV's.
Martin Underhill, driver and Nick Williams, general manager, from TNT Logistics' Nissan Renault contract, visited Nathaniel Newton while Andy Jenkins and Dominic Rudge from TNT Logistics training department attended Camphill Primary.
During a range of static safety demonstrations the TNT teams highlighted to the youngsters the visibility limitations of a large vehicle, pointing out how difficult it can be for the driver to see small children within a close proximity of the vehicle. The children also discovered that the driver would not necessarily hear them if they shouted him whilst he was sat inside the cab with the engine running.
"The children found the session interesting and informative. TNT Logistics gave them some good advice about the important issues of road safety," said Alison Brown, Head Teacher, Nathaniel Newton School.
Six-year old William Allen from Nathaniel Newton highly approved of his road safety lesson, he said, "it was wicked".
Linda Cox, Camphill Primary School teacher commented, "Everyone enjoyed TNT's visit and learnt lots about road safety."
"Road safety is a critical focus for TNT Logistics and opportunities where we can share our expertise with members of the community benefit all involved," said Andy Fitt, Managing Director, Operations.
The visits were part of a Cares initiative launched by Business in the Community. Cares is the main business led employee volunteering programme in the UK.
