TNT Container Logistics has been awarded a new contract by leading fresh and frozen meat supplier Glanbia Fresh Meats UK to supply containers for use at its packing facility in the West Midlands.
The folding plastic Magnum containers are hired by the company both to transport portions of meat around its Tipton plant ready for packing, and to move product between Glanbia sites.
John Wright, TNT Container Logistics' European director of sales and marketing said: "It was obvious from the start that hiring the Magnum was the best solution for Glanbia. It has helped increase efficiency by eliminating the need to store rigid containers on site.
"Hiring the containers also offers Glanbia complete flexibility of use, with no routine maintenance and repair costs. The units are readily available from stock and are delivered clean and ready for use."
The containers can be stacked five units high, and once emptied and no longer required, they are folded and stored by packing six into a single pallet space, ready to be collected for removal. The units can be folded flat by one operative in seconds.
The Magnum replaces the rigid, non-folding containers which Glanbia had previously used to store and transport the meat around its plants.
The flexible, re-useable unit weighs only 65 kg and is constructed of high density polyethylene (HDPE), making it waterproof and providing extra protection and security. It meets packaging waste regulations and is designed to replace conventional, more expensive cardboard packaging, eliminating the costs associated with the disposal of waste package materials.
The Magnum is equipped with replaceable bottom perimeter pallet skids for easy pallet repair, lockable lid and drop panels on both long and short sides to allow for easy container access regardless of storage orientation. It has integral card holders to facilitate labelling and identification of contents, and is also available with perforated sides, making it ideal for transporting products that require ventilation.
