IOC Visit

25 April 2005 - 14:31 CET

In February the International Olympic Committee visited London to make an inspection visit of the facilities forming the capital’s bid for the 2012 games.

The Olympic Stadium and Olympic Village will be connected to Central London by a rail link being built as part of the Channel Tunnel Rail Link. Future Events, who were responsible for the creative design image of the project, hit on the idea of driving committee members through the tunnel in Landrover Discovery vehicles. The visit took place the day before track was laid in the tunnel, and highly skilled specialist drivers were required to undertake the task of driving the four miles distance in an enclosed single rail tunnel just wide enough for the vehicles.

TNT Showpax provided the drivers, all experienced in driving for high profile visitors, heads of state and royal families. The whole operation was a complete success, and pictured are the vehicles about to enter the tunnel.
