Cycling for charity
08 September 2003 - 08:58 CET
This weekend more than 50 TNT Logistics employees will cycle for charity, completing the TNT sponsored North Warwickshire Cycleway.
The cycle ride takes place on Sunday 14 September. It starts and finishes at Hartshill Hayes country park, passing through Baxterley, Kingsbury and Corley. Some cyclists are gearing up to complete up to three laps of the circuit, a total of 106 miles. Those completing the smaller circuits will cover distances of 10, 35 and 70 miles.
Their mission is to raise money for the TNT Logistics chosen charity 'Moving the World'. This charity was launched last December, involving TNT Logistics' parent company TPG and the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP). It is aimed at a single common goal: fighting world hunger.
So far, TNT Logistics UK, headquartered at Atherstone, has raised a massive £46,000 for the charity. It is anticipated that the sponsored cycle ride will raise another £1,000.
The cycle ride starts at Hartshill Hayes at 10.00 am. Anyone who would like to take part should contact Sandy Kinson at TNT Logistics, telephone number 01827 303030. In return for refreshments, a minimum donation of £2.50 to the charity is requested.
WFP's mission is to use food to meet emergency needs, to support economic and social development and to provide the logistics support necessary to deliver the food. The partnership with TPG/TNT focuses on five projects: Emergency Response, Joint Logistics Supply Chain, Transparency and Accountability, School Feeding Support and Private Sector Fundraising.
