Corker Of A Show

21 June 2004 - 14:36 CET

TNT Showfreight have just returned from ExCeL following this years London Wine and Spirits Fair. This show encompasses many logistical challenges starting with a complex Customs procedure resulting in over 250 AAD forms being processed under the REDS importation system.

With such high volumes of product on display (and being constantly sampled) two storage areas are required which are manned and accessible 24 hours a day. The hot weather conditions during the week saw an unprecedented amount of ice being consumed with TNT responsible for delivering and replenishing 8 service points within the show. On a daily basis before even the exhibitors arrive TNT showfreight also deliver a water quota to each of the 1000 plus stands.

Our logistical operation however really comes into action long after the show has finished. On a nightly basis over 15,000 bottles are collected and recycled with any surplus wine being discarded in a process that has been developed to be safe and environmentally friendly to both the environment and the venue.

Each stand is supplied with a spittoon which for the first time this year saw a revolutionary absorbent pad been used instead of the usual sawdust. TNT not only assembles the 2000 plus spittoons but also distributes, replenishes and eventually discards them  in an operation which uses over 50 staff and an array of equipment.

The different logistical facets make this show extremely demanding but on returning to the office the tiredness was soon forgotten when the Operations Director for the show, Amanda Mansergh, took the time to write us a note, which included the following line.

I just want to take this opportunity to thank you for all your hard work at the wine fair... as always. We were delighted with the show and your hard work (and innovative ideas) play a major part in the success of the show.
