Bellshill team raises money for starving people

15 September 2003 - 08:55 CET

Last weekend 25 TNT Network Logistics employees from Bellshill raised over £1,000 for charity by completing a sponsored fun cycle around Strathclyde park.

Their mission was to raise money for the TNT Logistics chosen charity World Food Programme. This charity was launched last December, involving TNT's parent company TPG and the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP). It is aimed at a single common goal - fighting world hunger.

The cycle ride brings the total raised by Bellshill employees to £2,200. Employees at the depot are delighted that they have exceeded their fund-raising pledge of £1,800. Management washing staff cars, dress down days and donations for newspapers, has also raised funds.

WFP's mission is to use food to meet emergency needs, to support economic and social development and to provide the logistics support necessary to deliver the food. The partnership with TPG/TNT focuses on five project initiatives: Emergency Response, Joint Logistics Supply Chain, Transparency and Accountability, School Feeding Support and Private Sector Fundraising.

TNT Network Logistics is the multi-user division of TNT Logistics UK. It handles a wide range of goods through its network but has a particular focus on the publishing, print and media industries and incorporates TNT Newsfast through which it delivers all the nation's daily and Sunday newspapers.
